God Will Remove the Leaders

3 For behold, the Lord ^[a]God of armies ^(A)is going to remove from Jerusalem and Judah
Both supply and support, the entire supply of bread
And the entire supply of water;
²^(B)The mighty man and the warrior,
The judge and the prophet,
The diviner and the elder,
³The captain of fifty and the esteemed person,
The counselor and the expert artisan,
And the skillful enchanter.
⁴And I will make mere ^(C)boys their leaders,
And ^[b]mischievous children will rule over them,
⁵And the people will be ^(D)oppressed,
Each one by another, and each one by his ^(E)neighbor;
The youth will assault the elder,
And the contemptible person will assault the one honored.
⁶When a man ^(F)lays hold of his brother in his father’s house, saying,
“You have a cloak, you shall be our ruler!
And these ruins will be under your ^[c]authority,”
⁷He will ^[d]protest on that day, saying,
“I will not be your ^[e]^(G)healer,
For in my house there is neither bread nor cloak;
You should not appoint me ruler of the people.”
⁸For ^(H)Jerusalem has stumbled and Judah has fallen,
Because their ^[f]^(I)speech and their actions are against the Lord,
To ^(J)rebel against ^[g]His glorious presence.
⁹^[h]The expression of their faces testifies against them,
And they ^[i]display their sin like ^(K)Sodom;
They do not even conceal it.
Woe to ^[j]them!
For they have ^(L)done evil to themselves.
¹⁰Say to the ^(M)righteous that it will go well for them,
For they will eat the fruit of their actions.
¹¹Woe to the wicked! It will go badly for him,
For ^[k]^(N)what he deserves will be done to him.
¹²My people! Their oppressors ^(O)treat them violently,
And women rule over them.
My people! ^(P)Those who guide you lead you astray
And confuse the direction of your paths.

God Will Judge

¹³^(Q)The Lord arises to contend,
And stands to judge the people.
¹⁴The Lord ^(R)enters into judgment with the elders and leaders of His people,
“It is you who have ^[l]^(S)devoured the vineyard;
The ^(T)goods stolen from the poor are in your houses.
¹⁵What do you mean by ^(U)crushing My people
And ^[m]oppressing the face of the poor?”
Declares the Lord ^[n]God of armies.

Mark 1:1-20

Preaching of John the Baptist

1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, ^(A)the Son of God,

²^(B)just as it is written in Isaiah the prophet:

“^(C)Behold, I am sending My messenger ^[a]before You,
Who will prepare Your way;
³^(D)The voice of one calling ^[b]out in the wilderness,
‘Prepare the way of the Lord,
Make His paths straight!’”

⁴John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, ^[c]^(E)preaching a baptism of repentance for the ^(F)forgiveness of sins. ⁵And all the country of Judea was going out to him, and all the people of Jerusalem; and they were being baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins. ⁶John was clothed with camel’s hair and wore ^(G)a leather belt around his waist, and ^[d]his diet was locusts and wild honey. ⁷And he was ^[e]preaching, saying, “After me One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to bend down and untie the straps of His sandals. ⁸I baptized you ^[f]with water; but He will baptize you ^[g]with the Holy Spirit.”

The Baptism of Jesus

⁹^(H)In those days Jesus ^(I)came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. ¹⁰And immediately coming up out of the water, He saw the heavens ^[h]opening, and the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon Him; ¹¹and a voice came from the heavens: “^(J)You are My beloved Son; in You I ^[i]am well pleased.”

¹²^(K)And immediately the Spirit *brought Him out into the wilderness. ¹³And He was in the wilderness for forty days, being tempted by ^(L)Satan; and He was with the wild animals, and the angels were serving Him.

Jesus Preaches in Galilee

¹⁴^(M)Now after John was ^[j]taken into custody, Jesus came into Galilee, ^[k]^(N)preaching the gospel of God, ¹⁵and saying, “^(O)The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God ^[l]is at hand; ^(P)repent and ^[m]believe in the gospel.”

¹⁶^(Q)As He was going along the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew, the brother of Simon, casting a net in the sea; for they were fishermen. ¹⁷And Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will have you become fishers of people.” ¹⁸Immediately they left their nets and followed Him. ¹⁹And going on a little farther, He saw ^[n]James the son of Zebedee, and his brother John, ^[o]who were also in the boat mending the nets. ²⁰Immediately He called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men, and went away ^[p]to follow Him.

Isaiah 4:2-6

²On that day the ^(A)Branch of the Lord will be beautiful and glorious, and the ^(B)fruit of the earth will be the pride and the beauty of the ^(C)survivors of Israel. ³And it will come about that the one who is ^(D)left in Zion and remains behind in Jerusalem will be called ^(E)holy—everyone who is ^(F)recorded for life in Jerusalem. ⁴When the Lord has washed away the filth of the ^(G)daughters of Zion and ^[a]purged the ^(H)bloodshed of Jerusalem from her midst, by the ^(I)spirit of judgment and the ^(J)spirit of ^[b]burning, ⁵then the Lord will create over the entire area of Mount Zion and over her assemblies ^(K)a cloud by day, and smoke, and the brightness of a flaming fire by night; for over all the ^(L)glory will be a canopy. ⁶And there will be a ^(M)shelter to give shade from the heat by day, and refuge and ^[c]protection from the storm and the rain.

The First Seal: Conqueror on a White Horse

6 Then I saw when the ^(A)Lamb broke one of the ^(B)seven seals, and I heard one of the ^(C)four living creatures saying as with a ^(D)voice of thunder, “Come^[a]!” ²I looked, and behold, a ^(E)white horse, and the one who sat on it had a bow; and ^(F)a crown was given to him, and he went out ^(G)conquering and to conquer.

The Second Seal: War

³When He broke the second seal, I heard the ^(H)second living creature saying, “Come^[b]!” ⁴And another, ^(I)a red horse, went out; and to him who sat on it, it was granted to ^(J)take peace from the earth, and that people would kill one another; and a large sword was given to him.

The Third Seal: Famine

⁵When He broke the third seal, I heard the ^(K)third living creature saying, “Come^[c]!” I looked, and behold, a ^(L)black horse, and the one who sat on it had a ^(M)pair of scales in his hand. ⁶And I heard something like a voice in the center of the ^(N)four living creatures saying, “A ^[d]quart of wheat for a ^[e]denarius, and three ^[f]quarts of barley for a ^[g]denarius; and ^(O)do not damage the oil and the wine.”

The Fourth Seal: Death

⁷When the Lamb broke the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the ^(P)fourth living creature saying, “Come^[h]!” ⁸I looked, and behold, ^[i]an ^(Q)ashen horse; and the one who sat on it had the name ^(R)Death, and ^(S)Hades was following with him. Authority was given to them over a fourth of the earth, ^(T)to kill with sword, and famine, and ^[j]plague, and by the wild animals of the earth.

The Fifth Seal: Martyrs

⁹When the Lamb broke the fifth seal, I saw ^(U)underneath the ^(V)altar the ^(W)souls of those who had been killed ^(X)because of the word of God, and because of the ^(Y)testimony which they had maintained; ¹⁰and they cried out with a loud voice, saying, “^(Z)How long, O ^[k]^(AA)Lord, ^(AB)holy and true, ^[l]will You refrain from ^(AC)judging and avenging our blood on ^(AD)those who live on the earth?” ¹¹And a ^(AE)white robe was given to each of them; and they were told that they were to ^(AF)rest for a little while longer, ^(AG)until the number of their fellow servants and their brothers and sisters who were to be killed even as they had been, was ^(AH)completed also.

The Sixth Seal: Terror

¹²And I looked when He broke the sixth seal, and there was a great ^(AI)earthquake; and the ^(AJ)sun became as black as ^(AK)sackcloth made of hair, and the whole moon became like blood; ¹³and ^(AL)the stars of the sky fell to the earth, ^(AM)as a fig tree drops its unripe figs when shaken by a great wind. ¹⁴^(AN)The sky was split apart like a scroll when it is rolled up, and ^(AO)every mountain and island was removed from its place. ¹⁵Then ^(AP)the kings of the earth and the eminent people, and the commanders and the wealthy and the strong, and every slave and free person hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains; ¹⁶and they *^(AQ)said to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the ^[m]sight of Him ^(AR)who sits on the throne, and from the ^(AS)wrath of the Lamb; ¹⁷for ^(AT)the great day of Their wrath has come, and ^(AU)who is able to stand?”
